Jewelry box with a hunting scene, catalog number I / 6

Material: brass (silver)
Size: about 14 cm., weight – about 150 gr.

The scene itself is the author’s compilation of several interpretations of applications, probably from warriors’ clothes. In the ancient art any kind of decoration is closely connected with their rituals and beliefs. In this case, the hunting scene resembles “the hunting of the sacred deer” from the Greek mythology. For the Greeks, the deer is also a sacred animal but it refers to the natural cosmic circle and is treated as a necessary victim to the Sun-God. It is also connected with the inheritance of the ruler’s throne. Plastic ornaments, typical for the Thracian art, are pictured on the box cover.
